I pulled the alarm fuse in our 2005 facelift V70 (fuse in awkward place above driver's footwell) as I thought the module may be draining the battery. It does nothing except not activate the siren - central locking works and the flashing light on the dash showing the alarm is armed works as usual. Yes you do get the alarm service required message but you can just turn that off while driving.

Had the car 4 years now with that alarm message. Had no problems with it affecting any other systems or disabling the engine etc. I habitually switch the message off before I drive away. As I do the clutch sensor (cruse control) which causes the engine fault.

All this 1.5 months after a Volvo service. Not the first time things were not noted. Like the brake pads down to the metal, and needing new discs (£700+), 2 weeks after a major service. It doesn't fill you with confidence that they do a diligent job.
You are supposed to have a health check sheet issued with the invoice , which will indicate the state of the brake pads and discs amongst many other things, What happened to that? The are also obliged to do a video of this operation for you to see if you wish..
