There's also a very good chance that there'll be all sorts of teething problems with it. Google has a history of starting projects then leaving them in a beta-like state for years. Whilst Google will provide the basic system, each car manufacturer will hone it to their own specification, much as happens with Android smartphones, so updates will almost certainly still come via Volvo.

If the software issues with Sensus are anything to go by when SPA cars were first introduced, I'd wait a year before getting an Android controlled car.

As an aside, I have a top of the range Sony 65" 4k TV which runs on Android. The image quality is good as you'd expect from Sony but Android crashes 2 or 3 times a month which means the TV then has to go through a long boot sequence. The interface is slow and cluncky and after an initial couple of firmware updates that improved things a little, both Google and Sony appear to have given up on it.

I wonder if they will offer the google system on current models or if they are only using it for the BEV range.
I'd say not a chance. Android is a resource hog and the current hardware can barely cope with Sensus as it is.

And Volvo are now Chinese owned. Do you want to be sending your hard earned cash there after experiencing Covid?

Roosterb I get your point and none of us are tripping over ourselves to give the CCP more money but disentangling Chyna from product supply chains is probably going to take a very long time - decades probably.

And even then your ostensibly "Swedish" product will still be designed with the dominant Chinese-American consumer in mind.

At that point we'll probably have a Nordic Flu and have to send everything back to Shenzen again.
