Lockdown T5 restoration project
Hi all,
The current lockdown has finally given me some time to make a start on my 850 T5. As the pictures show, it’s been parked up for some time, approx 7years I think, following an incident involving black ice, a bridge and the infamous ABS ecu faults!! Not sure it’s going to be worth doing but will get it on the ramp, have a look and report back........ |

Well it would be good if you do restore it but it looks like spare parts from those photos!
Hopefully not as bad as it looks! |

I wouldn't bother with that one mate.
7 years off the road your opening up Pandora's box. Add the accidental damage to the front end, rotten wings paintwork etc. As they saying goes "You can't polish a turd but only roll it in glitter " Your call but I've seen better examples in breakers yards. Good luck👍 |

Hi Matt
As other indicate, that could be a lot of work. Maybe between us we could come up with a systematic list of what to check (and how to check it)? Although I myself don't know anything about 850s, only early V70s! HTH Steve

PS
If it was me, I would start by making a (usually frighteningly) long list of what to check, what can go wrong, what is wrong, and how much it would cost (parts and labour). Steve

And, going off your location, if it has been parked and exposed to the sea air you should check behind the rear arch liners before you invest any time or money.
See Diplomats2.6's thread here - Rust...please take care with your 850 and check all is well. and Amazondean's here - to all volvo 850 owners hidden rust please read

Got the T5 on the lift for a better look.
Certainly got a bit crusty underneath. Both sills are holed around the centre tie down point and there is a hole on the passenger side floor where the subframe mounts to the body. I’ve removed the sill covers and found it’s not gone too far up the outer sills. Think I’ve found another shell I can hopefully use as a donor repair sections. Should be ok.....maybe!! Other than that nothing I wasn’t expecting to be honest. Will need all the brake, tyres, service parts etc and of course. Starting to pull the front end to bits to assess the crash damage next. |
