I have a spare set of wishbones which I was intending to fit new bushes but unless I can find them for £20/set its probably not worth doing , my QH wishbones cost about £120 /pair and Toolbah says you can buy original Volvo for the same price so I agree no point messing with trying to fit new bushes unless you are looking for the extra firm handling you will probably get with poly bushes . Personally I wouldnt want poly bushes , the handling even with the nasty QH wishbones is more than adequate and I am sure the soft rubber helps absorb rattles and bumps better than poly bushes which no doubt transmit everything up from the road .

I was getting two new tires on my wife's 2007 XC90 (27,000 mi on the odo) and I looked at the rear suspension through the wheel wells. I could see at least one bushing was a 'high void volume' bushing, presumably natural rubber.

This makes me nervous. My experience with the high void volume, rubber bushing on the top engine mounts is that these don't last. I wish Volvo would use solid polyurethane bushings in the suspension so these would last the life of the vehicle.

I dont know how long poly bushes last but I doubt they stay in spec any longer than good quality rubber and what is the life of the car , I think Volvo believe its about 100k miles and then they dont care , must be nice for them to have the support of people like us who make them go on for ever but they dont do anything to actively support the longevity other than having engineered the pre Ford designs very well . The idea of bushes is they have to give , poly bush or rubber they both need a little give and I drive on roads with a lot of pot holes so poly bushes on my roads would either be destroyed quickly or cause the car to rattle more than rubber bushes do . I wouldnt worry about the bushes failing because its not like the old days when your worn trunnions meant your wheels would fall off , all that happens now is that you wear out your tyres and the handling gets vague but even then its not disastrous . I can see the point of fitting poly bushes if you want the better handling it no doubt gives but then I dont want better handling I want a quiet ride .

rubbers can be replaced without removing the complete wishbone
( a volvo garage / dealer should have the tool for this )

you can replace the rubbers by the police version ( they last longer etc )

brings to me the point : sure they don't last as long as on older cars but ain't that also due to our own demands ?
does a , for example , 1970 car drive the same comfortable way as 2005 car ?

It aint worth *issing about with replacing just the bushes for that price.
Got a price for wishbones from FRF. £73.88 inc VAT + delv. I must check to see how this compares with local dealer. Bushens at local dealer are £33 all in. Would pressing the bushens in take about £80 for both? Also nearside must have got a knock at a time as I have the track rod end to replace!

In your dreams ! I've got a duff alternator at 58260 miles. Car was just short of its fifth birthday, full main dealer service history from day one including interim 6000 mile oil and filter changes.

Contribution from Volvo for a new alternator £0.

Yes your right , split windscreen/flag indicator moggy minor sold one for £10 in 1973 ( think it was 1955 model ) I thought I had got a good price at the time , with the benefit of hindsight should have kept hold of it trunnions and all .

Hi, my car failed MOT for bush on passenger side which cost £70 to replace. My MOT was in Ards and they were very thorough. S60 D5 03 76k.
