2001 onwards are better cars IMHO, and if it has the sports pack on it, you can always recoup money if you break it

It does, which is why I asked

A little excited about the prospect of getting cruise control, I must say....

Gatos, would there be any point in swapping out the speedo unit from mine? I remember someone did a guide so I know it's fairly simple to do, but I've no idea if the mileometers would be interchangeable? I don't want to whack another 50k on it just after purchase

The connectors at the back are different. And even if you cut the old connectors and put them on the new car, I can't confirm if it will work

Thanks, that's a no then!

The really nice grey one with 106k, FSH from main dealers and "careful lady owner" I was spying in Bradford sold for £2k this week - so that's the high end benchmark - I think that was a "ph1.5" too.

Viewing two more tomorrow, both higher mileage, but also cheaper. Just hoping the bodywork's immaculate on the Sport and there's decent service history.... fingers crossed eh

I'm tempted. There's another up in another thread too. Might check insurance prices...

On the down side, seems the 01 era cars don't have the bucket seats so I literally cannot see out of the windscreen.

Depends on your uses really. I find the 1.8 sport is a nice comfy drive but has a decent enough amount of a kick behind it if needed. Granted not as much as a T4 but good enough for the daily driver.

For less than £1k you'll get a well specked P2 V40 T4. Or if your lucky & perpared to travel 2. :-) + Looks as good as any S4 of the same year.

Ph2 T4 is out of the question for 3 reasons, 1 VED, 2 insurance, 3 not that bothered about performance cars

However I'm not decided on S or V just yet, going to see a S40 Sport 1.8 today so will know either way in a couple of hours. Looking is much easier with narrower considerations, but you tend to miss bargains by doing that I do think the 1.6 will be underpowered though so not considering that, and I literally can't see out of the window in the Ph1 or Ph1.5 cars. Missed a 2.0T Sport Lux but thaty was £3.5k..... well over my budget though
