Aha now I understand why rear heated seats might actually be useful

So I managed to get about an hour tinkering with the car yesterday. There's good news and bad news.

The good news is that I used a mirror to see under the heat shield and the actuator arm has fallen off the wastegate. I can even wiggle the wastegate lever thing with my fingers. Pretty happy about this as the fix is about as cheap as it gets.

The bad news is that I tried to remove the heat shield and ended up stripping one of the bolts (yep I am an idiot and should have been more careful... ah well). I now have a Irwin stripped bolt removal kit on it's way to me. But I still need to get a new bolt. Any one know if I can get new bolts online?

I also tried to remove my blanking plate/dump valve and return the car to standard. The blanking plate is a right bugger to get at. So many hoses in the way and without getting a good angle on it I feel like I might accidentally strip these bolts too. Think I need to remove a few hoses and the air filter box when I have another go. Anyone got any tips on the easiest way to get at it?

Take off the charge pipe ,air box and turbo heat shield you can get the lower bolts easily from the front but you have to go from the top to get the last one that's hiding behind the pipework or use and extension bar with a flexi head on it

Thanks for the tips all. In the end I was just too busy and ended up taking it to a garage to get the dump valve and blanking plate changed (yes, I am ashamed of myself).

All seems good now though.

Cheers
