Volvo 245 DL Station Wagon - Orange
It is with a heavy heart that I write this thread - For sale is my pride and joy that recently took a hefty bang.
I recently got her MOT'd (2 weeks ago) She had a new clutch, refurbed calipers. Then she sailed through. As you can see at the weekend the car had an accident. I have attached all the pictures that I can. She is solid as a rock and rust free apart from a few bits on the rear tailgate & a couple of minor bubbles. The engine is quiet and sweet, the car actually still drives. But as you can see the front chassis leg has been pushed over a few inches. Happy to field any questions through PM's - I am looking to sell her complete at this time. The accident is unrecorded. I think it would be a good opportunity for someone that has a lot more time than myself to get her back on the road. Volvo 245 DL 1976 Gutted |

That really looks a nice car - such a shame this happened. It is the same age and interior as my 244DL, even the upholstery colour, except my car is green. It would REALLY be a good opportunity for me to have a matching pair, but the last time I did such work (about 20 years ago on an Amazon) the re-jigging alone cost £500 so assume your insurance company wrote it off on economic grounds? Are the suspension turrets pushed over too? The bonnet looks unscathed - a miracle! Also my car hobby-store is along the south coast near Bognor, so it would cost a lot to transport there too.
Have you considered getting it repaired yourself, or were you hurt/disheartened with everything and therefore lost interest now? I would swap my Volvo 144DL show-car for it any day but fear economics must take precedent. Paul |

Oh such a shame to see that. I’m guessing the repair would be difficult with round headlight stuff hard to get, let alone the jogging up and straightening that all out...... lovely colour and an early estate too. So sorry. Hope now one was hurt.

I have a 1979 244 DL too, also got spare headlights/surrounds. So could potentially be a parts donor but Ive not looked into that too much as yet.
I just imagine getting it jigged/straightening would be a considerable price these days. Then the replacing parts etc. Largely just disheartened by the work that went into it only to have it destroyed 2 weeks after it got its MOT |

Agree with disheartened - I was when my Amazon was bent, even after I had it straightened. So much so that, when I had to be a more or less full-time carer for my mother sold it and my Morris Traveller for someone else to finish.
Perhaps get some idea of prices for jigging - front wings etc do come up on ebay for not a lot (comparatively), and like you do have spares. I'll ask my local one-man body-shop friend when I can, as he knows people for what he can't do and is getting my 145 back for completion in a week or so. Paul |

Yes I get the disheartened, but it’s got everything, nice colour, it’s round headlight and an estate. I get it needs work now, but it will be lovely again when done. Luck you got bits, I should get some spares, I have a round headlight saloon.

Thankfully your interest in old cars put you in a Vlvo and not something flimsy.
I assume everyone in the car walked away from that.

Thanks - We walked away from it yes. Although my daughter was hysterical at the scene.
I was stationary yet marginally over the junction looking to see if I could go, clearly by the extent of the damage you can see that the other party was going way above 30mph. He was central in the road due to parked cars on either side, when he came to the final car he tried to take his normal road position but alas I was sat their looking to proceed. But by the letter of the law may fault. |
