Default Volvo S60 2002 D5 Automatic Transmission as a First Car

I have found Volvo from 2002 around ~2000 €. It has 200k km's on the mileage. Everything about car is alright as i have talked with the owner. But owner also said that car has hard shifting problem. Owner told me wtih changing transmission fluid the problem would be solved. If i buy this car, it will be my first car. I read some bad things about transmission about this car. Also, I live in Czech Republic, i will import this car from germany so i will have some extra expenses. What do y'all think?

Run away as fast as you can.
Yes transmissions can get sticky with old oil. But if it was that easy the owner should have done it.
Around here that car would be worth half of that price or less.

Automatic gearbox are the biggest weak points of these cars.

If it is hard shifting that means the gearbox is already in poor condition, changing the gearbox oil might mean it lasts longer, but the gearbox is still on it's way out.

Find another car my friend!

Well, the owner is Auto Gallery, and reduced the price 1500Euro. Since i mentioned i live in czech republic it is really cheap for here this price. I really cant find anything like this. I thought if i could change oil and it will take me around a year i would consider mostly profit.

Changing the gearbox fluid ‘might’ improve it, or it might need new solenoids or more work.
It will be a gamble at best.

It is cheap for a reason. Unusually, you know the reason. If it was as simple as an ATF change, do you think the seller might have done it himself? Always be prepared to walk away!

This is a 19 year old diesel car people have been driving, failing to maintain and passing along.

As discussed, the simple refreshment of a fluid wasn't done.

The timing belt likely hasn't been done. The intake pipes likely haven't been done.

The weight of these cars, while safe and adding ride comfort, masks worn suspension parts.

The price of 2000 is clearly phony as it was magically reduced to 1500.

You didn't speak with "the owner". You spoke with a dealer.

Well, thank you for your insights. However, the things you mention always same with old car, it is part the deal of buying old car.

Also, it was reduced because i told him these problems thats the reason he lowered price.

Only you can weigh it up I'm afraid, all we've done is respond to your questions
