1800: Horn wire needs replacing problems!!!

Hi, Resto nearly finished (see photo) but my horn wire had broken in the middle. I removed the 2 broken pieces, and have tried to pass a draw wire through the centre tube so that I can pull a new wire up it.
I am having trouble getting the draw wire down and through as it needs to align exactly with the internal holes. On one occasion I got it all the way through to the bottom but it would not go through the last hole i the steering box.
Is there any technique to use to get this job done??, before I disassemble the steering column?

hi Don

the way i do these is to use a peice of stiff flex (240v cable) and start at the bottom and push it up, when it gets to the joint and stops twist it cable and push at the same time it should find its own way to the hole, use a bit of finness and don't push to hard, and carry on to the top.

connect the new cable to the one you have just inserted and pull it through
to connect the two i solder them together so it don't come apart if it snages at the joint

If possible, use the old wire as a pulling wire...but it sounds like you may not have this option anymore...

Because the hole in the endplate of the steering box is smaller than the tube, pushing it down the tube is quite difficult...pushing it up is the way to go...see also: http://sw-em.com/service%20notes.htm#Steering

You may need to loosen coupling in steering column to get past it...you can thread in a thin wire as a pulling wire, but it is important to finally use 600V rated (double thickness) insulated wire for this application because it is subject to vibration AND motion.
