Default Xenon bulb replacement

The dipped beam went on my V70 last night so I have been looking for a replacement set of bulbs.

Having never had Xenon lights before I almost fell off my chair when I saw how much they wanted for just 1 bulb.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap supplier of D2R dipped beam xenon bulbs?

Thanks

There are apparently quite a lot of fake 'branded' HID bulbs available which may not represent great value for money if they turn out not to last very long. May be worth sticking to some of the better known motor factors who at least you will some support in the event of problems. Ideally, you should replace these bulbs in pairs to maintain the correct colour temperature as they do tend to getting dimmer & change colour as they get older.

I think the other one is going to go soon as its also looking pretty dim - so that doubles the pain on the wallet!

I am a little concerned with cheap Chinese copies as they may not last. This retailer has a brand called Mtech which I havent heard of before and cant seem to find anything about them online - so potential bargain or possible waste of money.

That said they also have 20% off so maybe I will just go for the branded units and be done with it.

Default D2R Bulbs

I have today received two similar bulbs D2R from -- hids4u.co.uk-- £45 each or £90 for two. If i had known ,i would have bought them from power bulbs for £79.98 with free delivery.
i will be fitting them tomorrow to my 2003 v70 D5
Having done this before,i prefer to remove the bumper cover, then remove each headlight. The headlight wipers have to come off, needless to say. Removing the bumper cover is very easy.

Just replaced mine on my 2004 V70 D5. Was able to get in the back of the headlamp with out taking the bumper off, or headlamp out.
I changed both as the light was awful of them, it has made such a difference having 2 new bulbs.
I also combined them with Osram H7 nightbreakers for main beam. Makes hell of a difference.

Well I am now £80 worse off for some light bulbs. Decided not to bother with the unbranded Chinese bulbs - knowing how prone bulbs are to failing I am hoping that a big name brand are going to last longer than an unknown chinese brand.

Had a quick look at the back of the headlights and access doesn't seem to be that bad - do you only need to go through the hassle of removing the bumper if you have halogen headlights rather than HID?

Bumper off for HIDs,i found best to give greater access. You don't want to foul up £45 bulbs struggling to get them in. The wire on the outside of the D2Rs can be easily damaged. Headlight wipers off already.

Default HID Bulbs

I have always found these people pretty good.

I don't have my records with me , but I seem to think they were about £40 to £45 for the more complex shuttered bulb (dip/main on same bulb). I would expect the single filament ones to be cheaper.

Only on the 05 models on. Where the bulbs are seated deep in the headlamp. On the pre facelift model up to 05, you can easily change D2R bulbs no problem. As I said, did mine no problem.
