Default V50 2008 Loss of Power...

....guys I was wondering if you could help me, a friend of mine has a V50 they have had it into Volvo and found out a leak from the washer bottle got into the ECU and messed it up, they fixed it and sent them on there way!

Only now they have an issue it appears that when they go over 3000 revs the cars dash lights up like a xmas tree and loses power, they have to turn it off and start it again and all is fine!!!

Looking elsewhere online someone had a similar issue and was down to a crack in the intercooler and the turbo was getting far to much air and overboosting which cut out the power.

They have it booked in with an independant this week but thought I would drop online see what you guys think?

Thanks

Tom

Tom,

What is happening is the car is picking up an error code and due to the error the car is then going into what is known as 'limp mode' which it does as a precausion to try and protect itself from further damage.

When the car goes into limp mode there is vastly reduced power, revs are limited and dash light comes on. There will then also be an error code stored in the ECU that will point in the direction if not to the exact cause of the fault.

You need to get the codes read off the car and then once the stored codes are known we can then point you in the right direction of a remedy.

Without knowing the stored codes it would just be complete guess work of a thousand + possibilities. What engine is it that is in the 2008 V50? I'm guessing a 2.0d? This helps to nail the problem down as people can advise on the most common problems for that particular veicle and year too.

Hi, I have a 2008 V50 and I got a recall around the washer bottle which could leak and cause wiring issues. Sounds like what has happened here? Did the recall apply to your friends car? and was it carried out?
