Default Thoughts please?

Right, I have had an on going problem with my car for a while now as you will know if you have read this thread:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=176186

I may have found the reason today, I checked the spark plugs, and while they are new, they are NGK R spark plugs, not Volvo

So what does everybody think? could this be the cause of my problem?

And does anybody know how much I should be looking to pay for genuine Volvo plugs please?

Thanks

I paid about £18 for a set of specified 4 electrode plugs from GSF for my non turbo 170. Having said that my SAAB turbo needed plugs which were resistor plugs at a whopping 40+ quid a set.

I have notice my car occasionaly hunts a little bit by a few hundred revs on hills on a steady throttle - I assume this is just something to do with the auto box delivering the required revs/power/torque to the torque converter or the lock-up function being on the threshold? TBH I don't know much about the workings of auto boxes so that's an assumption

I have read several times that these turbo engines are very particular about there plugs, and apparently they also need special resistor plugs as you mentioned above.

Best quote so far for genuine plugs is £44 delivered!

That is precisely how I would describe it, thank you!

If you are trundling along, or only slightly accelerating the car is fine, but under load or going uphill it pulls, and it has now become intermittent, sometimes it's fine, sometimes I want to drive it into a tree!!!

A quick ebay search seems to suggest the proper turbo rated plugs are about 40 odd quid, and the non-turbo about 20 odd quid.
I think you may have your answer!

volvo turbo engines do seem to very picy about plugs, i would use volvo gen plugs and be done with as on the s40/v40 forum there is a massive debate over this issue on the t4s and gen plugs are what they preach

I have just replaced the NGK plugs on my S80 BiFuel with another set of NGK - I too can't believe the difference compared to Volvo plugs - about £60 and they actually work!!
