Default Remap price and info

Been in touch with a local remapping company today to find out a price for a remap for my 2006 D5 Geartonic as want to improve mpg and try and improve the lag at pulling away. This is the repy i got.
"Unfortunately because this has the earlier style ECU (EDC15) the remap can only be done via a chip change which is much more expensive than doing the remap via the 16 pin OBD socket so the cost is £500 inc VAT"
Is this right?

Sounds like it could be on the cheap side.

My Heico Sportiv ChipTune cost around 2900 CHF I think at the time, which is 2200 GBP. Including homologation certification.
The current Heico Sportiv ChipTune for the current XC90 sells for 2700 EUR, which is 2400 GBP, and includes a 2nd plug in ECU, and again includes all legal homologation registration etc.

Don't you love the Internet?

Found the Heico ECU-upgrade XC90 (275) D5 Automatic, Heico part H2009904, price from January 2009, as applicable to my car, in NOK on a PDF file floating around the Internet.

Price those days was 17860 NOK which was around CHF 2500 back then.
I then googled H2009904 and found a Swiss price list from 2010
Swiss price was 2900 CHF, which is 2200 GBP now.

So that's the Heico tune.
if you don't know Heico: Heico is for Volvo what AMG is for Mercedes, and Alpina for BMW.

Always a good reference point....

Right, been in touch with another local company today and they have said it can't be remapped and only option is to fit a diesel chip box for £400!!
Has anyone actually managed to get their 2006 163bhp remapped?

It's not impossible as Heico offered a chip tune for the 2003 - 2006 XC90s as a standard performance upgrade.
They also offered many other performance upgrades back them

But as you said, Heico is likely out of your price range.....

Yes, about 5 years ago. Highly recommended,

Give shark a call or one of their local to you dealers. They have a very good reputation. I have one of their maps on a VW Tiguan we have and it transformed the car.

we remap them using the OBD port.

RICA do it via ODB i'm sure most of the other big names do it the same way, eg Shark or BSR
