I haven't done this personally, but as you haven't had a reply yet...

On the 940 its a pretty simple operation as the wiring loom is already there - all 940s were fitted with a standard loom, so adding optional extras only required the addition of the item itself and a connection loom - usually a short section with a relay etc.

I'd guess that that practice is still followed as it wouldn't make economic sense to have different looms for different spec cars - the lower cost of the stripped down loom would be far outweighed by the additional admin, logistic and manufacturing costs. The seats themselves will have the same mounting points, but will most likely have additional relays under the seats. The existing wiring will probably terminate around the kick panel area - the extension loom will plug in there as if it was a std factory fitted item. No splicing etc should be required. There may well be a full upgrade kit available from Volvo - including the heated elements, wiring loom, switches and relays etc - check with Rufe.

Sorry I can't give a more definitive answer, but I hope this helps a bit.

Also never done it, but i believe all cars were made as a blank canvas, and you specified what bits to put on, ie there are no trim levels. Mine has cruise, heated seats, etc etc, but the logbook just says its a v70xc in blue. I therefore think its get the necessary and plug it in. I have seen kits for fog lights advertised, so it may well be possible. Have a look under your seats are there any plugs with nowt in them?

Impossible to add heated seats to your vehicle? How hard is it to install 2 heater elements between the foam and leather, mount the control switch, and get power and ground?

Ask Rufe http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=57125 - your local dealership will charge you a fortune

just find a breaker, swp front seats for known working ones, and fit the bit under the ash tray with the switches fitted,

otherwise you would need, elements, wiring, stat, coin tray and switches (wiring is all there)

don't know about fitting elements into current seats, but probably more cost than finding decent interior with heated seats (would need to be 97/98 MY) and if you have passenger air bag, make sure donor car has one, or switch the passenger seat belt reciever

complete interior swap (front and back) is about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to do yourself

The hard part is installing the elements. I wouldn't recommend trying to tackle this on your own unless you know how to work with leather upholstery well.
