I tried to send you and Clan a personal message of thanks but I was blocked by the admin. (need to post 30 messages first). So again, many thanks and best wishes to you both for your support.

P.S. My wife hasn't noticed any difference at all but then she only drives it from the back seat.

Happy you managed to get it going. Based on my experience I don't think you will have a problem going forward with this now. I remember the feeling of relief when mine started and settled down to a normal tick over. Well done – just need to figure out what you are going to do with all that mixed fuel now.

I've misfuelled once too, about a year ago and then panically searched for some kind of protection because I'm such a mind-wanderer and was afraid that it will happen again. I've bought SoloDiesel and I'm very satisfied with it. Hope I can post a link here, if not admins please delete it.

Hi guys, I hope you don't mind me resurrecting this ancient thread, just have a little bit to add, I filled 40litres of petrol into my 04 S80 D5 last night from empty, the girl in the shop said I had used petrol, so no long drive or anything, just started it to move it away from the pump. Big panick, looked this up and read this thread, and was planning on doing what previous posters have done but reasoned that there was currently no petrol in the filter housing and therefore it would be better to try something else rather than contaminate the filter or housing with petrol. My friend has one of those electric oil change pump things that goes down the dipstick so called my friend, reversed around the pipes on the pump so that the longest hose (around 6 feet) was the suction line and pushed it down the filler line. Pumped must of the petrol straight from my car to his and the rest into a 25 Ltr drum, cycling the key on and off regularly to transfer between the tanks, got the gauge reading below the red and trip computer reading "--- miles to empty tank" then filled up to the neck with diesel and drove on. 100 miles later and no problems. Really easy, no mess and bleeding and changing filters or anything. I hope this helps someone in the future. Please be careful what pump you use tho, maybe the manual one is safer, less likely to blow yourself up! But all in it was no great drama, all pumped out and restarted in 40 mins.

Did you do both tanks? Belay that, it's an S80, no AWD shaft.

rumour was that the breakdown services were going to charge for draining the system because of high numbers, anyone know if this has come into force

saddle tanks there is special tool you remove hose from tank insert metal tube which allows you to get from 1 saddle to another insert tubing and drain off fuel ..

advise putting couple of diesel treatments through it and renew fuel filter as a minimum
