Default Running in?

Hi,
I have a new S60 D5. There appears to be no guidance for 'running in' the vehicle. The dealer says no special treatment is necessary in the first 1000 miles, however common sense tells me that no over-stressing the car can only help?

Does anyone have a more scientific perspective?

Thanks
Dale

Modern machining methods result in better surface finish and tolerances than was possible 20 or 30 years ago and as a result a formal "running in" period is not now necessary. However it is still prudent to drive easy for the first 1000 miles avoiding full throttle and high engine revs. The only reference I can find in my handbook is on page 110, where it advises not to tow for the first 1000km (625 miles)

Just make sure you check you oil level at least every 500 mile cos they tend to use alot for first few thousend miles

Hi Craig,
Thats what I thought too. My D5 has now done 11,000 miles and not used a drop of oil.
