This is The Volvo Warranty.

The headlight Bi-Xenon bulb works perfectly but just does not bend anymore

This would then imply, that the term "Lamp" is not used to describe the headlight ASSEMBLY, but is used to differentiate between LED lights and incandescent - bulb shaped - lights. Lamps vs bulbs. The ejit who "confirmed" does not understand English or implication. I would say that you have a strong case to argue that it is the Headlight ASSEMBLY that has failed, and that the warranty's wording covers this perfectly - the difference between a lamp and a bulb - when it states that:- "50% of the lighting has failed" is obviously referring to [such as] 11 out of 20 individual LED's on a brake light cluster, for example. Also, the fact that Bi-Xenon BULBS - ARE covered, then the rest of the headlight ASSEMBLY is also covered, as it is not expressly excluded, as lamps and bulbs are adequately described above.

Hope this helps. I wouldn't pay £1500 for a light assembly....
That would be and is my argument exactly and is what I will be arguing if the engineer rejects my claim on Tuesday. I will keep you all posted. Many thanks for all your advice and opinions.

Just another shot in the dark ......Is there a fuse or relay maybe per side that serves the head lamp motors that might have blown or suffered water ingress?

I would hope that the Volvo technicians at Lookers checked that 🤔

I had a Bi-Xenon failure during the extended warranty period with my 2009 V50. The problem was water ingress into the unit which caused a bulb failure. It WAS covered by the warranty because the dealer told me it was water leakage due to wear and tear, not (for example) stone chip damage. The warranty bill was around £1100. Unless the t&c have changed, your motor failure should likewise be covered.

Well an engineer has been to visit. Supposedly his comment to the dealers was "I don't know why I am here, headlights are not covered". Waiting for the official word from the warranty company but he advises that the claim will be rejected!

Anyone thinking of getting the Volvo Extended Warranty, please think seriously if you have active bending Bi-xenons.

Next step is the ombudsman.

Keep us posted

Have you phoned Volvo Warranties direct yet.

When on the call hopefully it's being recorded get them to quote the lines in the policy & then state it's the headlamp assembly that's failed that exclusion is for the bulb, it's a Bi-Xenon anyway so is covered in the policy.

If they then refute it state that the ombudsmen will be in contact & you trust the recording of the phone call will be made available.

Andy, already had that conversation with them. They said the headlight unit is a lamp under the policy and hence not covered.

I had a failure of the Active Bending Lights on my XC60 MY11 about year ago. Warranty Direct would not cover it though it was a fault with a sensor on the offside rear wheel NOT the Xenon unit. This cost a few hundred pounds to fix. Perhaps that's where your fault lies?

I was disallusioned with WD as this was an electrical fault and not the lights, per se.
