Default "On Call Service Required"

Whilst my wife was driving the other day she noticed that the "On Call Service Required" message came up on the information screen. Now having just purchased the car without a SIM card in the phone, I have put one in and for the first few days there was no issues making or receiving calls and text messages. Now this message has appeared and I'm wondering what the crack is. What actually is the on call function??

I'm currently Offshore and have no access to the car but any info to put my (and her) mind at rest would be appreciated.

Cheers Fraser

On Call is the information and safety service .
you can talk to an operator who will advise you of services , hotels shops etc in the area .
Also if you have an accident are left unconcious the car will call the emergency services and tell them where you are . A bit more to it than all that too .
It is Probably a battery monitoring problem , there is a back up battery in the phone unit and its state is monitored , sometimes this needs resetting , so a visit to the dealer is best . Well worth getting it sorted !
