For the 1990 model year the picture indicates it's a 745 GLE as that was the only variant with such wheel trims. All 1990 year models had a similar facelifted front end except the '740 GLT', and the '740 Turbo' which had a different headlight lens that extended to the grill. From the GL up they all came with the spec you mentioned (whatever that was!).

Looking at the picture again I see it doesn't have a lambda symbol on the grill. If it hasn't fallen off the engine will be a B230E not the B230F (catalyser), but the VIN and other codes will reveal all.

If you can find them Depo replacement indicator lens are a good substitute. Currently GSF have one side (can remember which) and are good value especially on their 40% off days.

There are still a number of facelift cars around in some breakers, but the numbers are falling dramatically.

Looks a car well worth the investment.

Bob.

Hi Bob, thanks for the comments

It's not a 745GLE, or a B230 engine - it's a 740 TD with the B24T engine
I've no idea if the wheels (alloys, not plastic trims) are original to this particular car or not, but I think they suit it The plan is to get them refurbished at some point as there's a small amount of alloy corrosion around the edges (though little kerbing, thankfully).

Aside from a few parking dings it's a remarkably sound old beast. As soon as the weather improves I'm planning on using a load of cavity wax and dinitrol to ensure the condition doesn't deteriorate

Thanks for the heads-up on the GSF lamp, I'll wait and see if I get another weekend discount code tomorrow

I didn't consider the 740 Turbo Diesel as I am a petrol man! Yup that most certainly came with the D24T engine. Me thinks that the wheels were non standard either as an optional extra, or swapped at sometime.

Hi, any mudflaps (or other parts) for a 1989 740?
