V50 steering wheel volume buttons
Hello and thank you for reading.
The steering wheel right hand side volume buttons have become stuck together by something underneath or down the sides of the buttons. Can this four button assembly (volume up/down buttons and track selector buttons) be removed from the steering wheel, and if so is there a schematic available? Is there a part number available if the assembly can be replaced and newly inserted into the steering wheel? Thank you for reading. |

Yes it is as easy as you've found, here is the list of part numbers for Audio and Cruise blocks:
LINKY! There is a little connector under the buttons but you may find the cable might not be long enough. You might get buttons off and disconnect from connector but it may not be so easy to get back on. The easiest and best way to do the job would be to take the airbag off and have full access to the wires, the steering wheel could stay in place. By all means try the removal of buttons only and if it doesn't work for you then you can still take the airbag off. |

Having recently installed steering wheel audio controls I would echo what SonyVaio says in removing the airbag. The blank plug that was in the place of the audio controls was a very tight fit and needed some persuasion to come out. If the switches are as stiff you'll need to get something behind them to remove them.
As also said, with the airbag out you've got more wire to play with on the controls and you can also make sure its all back in place when you put things back. The wire pushes into a grove in the back of the steering wheel, it is very easy to pull it out and with the airbag in, you wouldn't know it was loose. Just as a point of interest for anyone retro-fitting steering wheel audio controls, on a 2009 model year, the wiring is not pre-installed, the harness inside the steering wheel has to be changed. The harness costs far more than the buttons from Volvo!!! |

Dear SonyVaio and Missing Lincs,
Thank you for your replies. Before purchasing a news set of audio control switches there was a further attempt and freeing the "stick" between them. This was done with light spray of WD40 and removal of something sticky which had been clogging them to some extent. There has so far been no adverse effects and the two volume buttons are now moving freely. Thank you again for your replies. |
