Stereo/DVD: 6 CD Multi Changer Deck Error

Hi all.

Picked up my new (to me) 2004 XC90 on Monday.

CD player showing 'Deck Error' after showing 'Loading CD 1, 2, 3 etc'

Have read various threads on this but not found a solution other than replacing CD mechanism, or whole unit via main dealer.

Have seen the posts from Marcel in Ipswich, but that is a bit too far away from Liverpool area.

Has anyone managed to find a solution to this other than those mentioned above? I really cannot afford to pay dealer price for repair after shelling out my £8k to purchase the car.

hi mike,

sorry to here about your cd problems.Can you not remove the player and send it too marcel.the car should still run ok although a few things dont operate as normal like the reverse proximity warning for example.The actual player that contains the disc elevator is no bigger than a normal car radio once its out and that is usually where the problem is as the mechanism is very intricate.

Its relatively easy to get out too. It actually looks like a CD/DVD player out of a PC in terms of size and shape.

Thanks for the thaught Coconut, but it was a private seller. They said that a CD was stuck in it, but from reading up on this issue on the forum I think it's more likely to be a kn******d multi-changer box.

I have found a second hand multi-changer listed on ebay with a part number as identification. Is there anyway of checking if this will fit my model or not? It is listed as 'GENUINE VOLVO S60 V70 XC90 S80 SAT NAV 6XCD CHANGER' but do not want to shell out and buy it if it isn't going to fit my motor.

Iv seen that one but i think its from a S60 and is boot mounted. There is a whole radio listied on there some where.
Mine doesn't work but as i have fitted a dension i don't ever use it.
They are not cheap but are very good and there is currently one on ebay for £360 ish.

There is one currently on ebay in the xc90 parts section.It has a starting price of £170.It is the in-dash 6 cd type with mini disc player from a 2003 xc90.This is the same type i bought too repair my own cd/radio when the cd player gave out.

Thanks guys, will have a look at the unit with minidisc player

Have also been in touch with Marcel, will prob send unit to him to be repaired. Will the radio still work with cd unit removed?
