Default Key worn out does anyone have any ideas

Key worn out does anyone have any ideas or can we source some kind of cover it's the key for my v70r it's done nearly 190k so its not done bad the blade still operates the ignition and doors fine I just don't want it to come adrift from my keys as the loop bit is wearing very thin as can be seen in the photo I know in an ideal world I can get a key from the dealer but last time I got one it was close to £200 with the vat so any ideas would be appreciated

I fitted a Clifford concept 650 with intelli start and turbo timer so the transponder chip it no longer in the key its mounted near the key antenna so the remote engine start works so I could get a blank cut and obviously wouldn't need coding to the car

I had a new key cut for my 850 which included the right internal chip. £40 from my local independent key supplying shop. Not sure it directly relates to your car but may be worth checking your local locksmith.

My key is similar and every now and then I think what will I do when it wears right through?
One trick I've used in these restricted times on my broken reading glasses is polyester reinforced acrylic, sounds posh but what I really mean is binding the broken bit with sewing thread and coating between layers with nail varnish getting it 100% right on a key might be tricky but when you've got time to kill ...

edit - highly doubt a V70R key is copyable at a locksmith and Volvo wanted a fair bit more than £200 last time I asked.

I work repairing cars and I spoke to locksmith we used for coding and replacing keys ect and he said that Volvo are funny about releasing the security profiles for vehicles the Mercedes I have was the same like I said the transponder being coded is not necessary but I can't seem to source a blank

Timpsons or any other firm can usually copy the key without any problem; they charged me £25 for 3 "dead" keys last year which work all the locks. Depending upon which branch you use, they may or may not have the software for the code copying machine to copy your Volvo coded chipped key. Timpsons bought out a competitor a few years ago and distributed the code readers from the bought out firm amongst their other shops - at worst you'll have a spare dead key but if you cut the chip out of the old key, then tape it physically near the top of the lock barrel under the plastic shroud, the isolating system is circumvented......ie the dead key always appears as live in the lock.....

Yes the local Timpson managed to get blank to cut me what I refer to as a mechanical copy, it will work the locks so if I lose the original key at least I could get the car towed away but the security code is a Volvo only thing and they milk it for all they can get (and then a bit more)

The mechanical key I had done at Timpsons was on a blank he specially ordered in (couple of days) which has JMA on one side and NE 41P on the other side. As you've already got the chip removed Timpson, or decent local keycutter, would seem to be best option, I can't remember what I paid but less than £20.
