Default 1990 240 autobox ???

Hi guys just bought a 1990 240 GL estate in near mint condition and am chuffed with it, the car has only covered 59K with full history so its been well looked after but the overdrive seems a bit lazy going in, it may be me as ive only had manual ones before, the car drives so smooth through the gears but does not change into overdrive untill it gets up to about 60 mph it will go in at about 55 if i lift off the throttle rapidly, is this correct as when going through country lanes at 45-50 the car is revving at about 3k ish and that seems a bit high the manual shows how to check the overdrive solenoid is this something I should be doing ? any advise please thanks Rob

This can be caused by low transmission fluid, dirty ATF or blocked stainer. These require the removal of the gearbox sump new fluid, a filter and replacement gasket and O Rings. This should be done every 30K miles. The external factors are poor electical connection and sticking/weak solenoid. Do you have a manual Haynes pages 7B-4 to 7B-7

thanks Peter the fluid is clena as a whistle and topped up correctly so I think it could be the solonoid but wanted to check if the changing was correct or as I thought is sluggish
