Propshaft front joint
I'm going to replace the propshaft front joint on my 2003 XC90 D5 Auto (where is attaches to the output flange of the transfer box). I would prefer to order the new one without removing and dismantling the shaft first - however there seems to be two types available - 19 splines and 20 splines (both 86mm)
Does anyone know if there was a definite cut off point or do I need to remove it to check? Any suggestions appreciated.

I replaced the rear one on my 2005 XC70 last year whilst servicing the Haldex.
I wasn't prepared to take the risk as to which one to order so waited until it was off and then counted the splines to be certain. Pretty sure that the replacement was about £45 off ebay.

CV joint type
In case anyone finds this thread in search of answers, the type is stamped into the cv joint. I was able to crawl under the car, and with a bit of wriggling, clean the outside of the cv joint and get some pictures of the outside casing. The code will tell you how many splines
HLJ75 = ME733 (OE: 31216175) 24 spline LJ75 = ME735 (OE:31216176) 19 spline BJ75L = ME734 (OE:21216177) 20 spline https://www.driveshaftparts.co.uk/in...6&search=bj75l is a good source for the parts. |
