Thankfuly that had actual buttons for the volume and everything else.

Putting all the controls on a sodding touchscreen is just ridiculous, and as for having to use it to open the glovebox

Just give me actual switches and buttons!

I can adjust everything to however I want it in our two current cars ('01 xc70 and '89 740) quickly, easily and efficiently by feel with barely a glance away from the road.

Ergonomics has taken a back seat compared to the economics of sticking a tablet to the dash and calling it good.

I think someone said on another thread something along the lines of "Volvo hasn't really been Volvo for a while now, time to let go".
It strikes me that the new generation of cars and more so are becoming media centres with wheels.

Well, they have been computers on wheels for a while, this is just another step.

It absolutely is not "Volvo" today, any more than "MG" is MG.

Absolutely, I believe Volvo hails from Scandinavia, so if you can’t operate anything without special gloves, then I’m not interested really.

Cheers

Time rolls on but I doubt the EX30 is any less safer than any other Volvo. Must say though, it looks a bit spartan in there from what few pics I’ve seen so far.

Having to look at a screen and navigate menus to do things simple switchgear and muscle memory can achieve without taking one's eyes from the road seems less safe to me. YMMV.

I hope this "everything on the screen" phase passes before I need to buy another car.
