24GB Data Sim
Hi all, I took possession of a new XC90 in mid-February and installed a brand new 24GB Data sim from 3. On Saturday, the internet connection appeared to stop working. While fiddling around, I went to the data usage screen and it says that I have used 26181MB since 16th February!
I have done a week in France listening to internet radio (although this was mostly just there and back, not during the week itself), and I occasionally listen to TuneIn radio and/or Spotify. This data usage seems huge to me. I can only assume it is the OTA updates. I have maps set to auto-update, but normally it tells me that these are too big, and to do the upgrade using a USB stick. Has this changed? There have been a few app updates in the last 3 months, but can't believe they would absorb so much data! I will switch off auto-updates, and see how it goes with the next Sim. |

Do you connect your phone to the car Wifi? I've done that, my phone is set to auto update apps when connected to WiFi. Often I look at my phone at the end of a journey and it has a notification that it auto-updated various phone apps and thus used a pile of data from the car.

turn off the auto update for maps - it will probably be updating all of Europe every couple of weeks

Turn off maps auto update completely. Surely once a year, or even eighteen months, is often enough to update maps.
Yes, phones will auto connect to the car’s wi-fi, possibly using a lot of data. For that reason I never auto update on the phone, always having the option to time updates at my convenience on my home/office WiFi. Even so I have accidentally downloaded music and streamed YouTube while in the car on its data rather than the phone’s a few times.

I agree with my forum colleagues
Mystery solved. Just turn off auto updates.

Most likely you are inadvertently backing up photos and videos from camera app , what's app etc etc.I have my phone connect to the car and I update uk maps unless it's a large update , i also listen to internet radio from time to time .In nearly 12 months I still have data left on my 12gb card.
