Default 340 rear diff

Hi

I'm looking for a replacement rear diff for my 340 (F reg, 5 speed box, 1.7 B172)
I think the diff and gearbox may be one unit on this according to the Haynes manual, but not got round to removing it yet.

Has anyone got one they're willing to sell?, preferably somewhere near West Yorkshire.

You could try Braydon Motor Company. They're very helpful. (see online)

hi mate you will find the diff in the 1.7 5 speed is the same as the 1.4 4 speed lol but dont quote me on this
i do know they are not one unit, they are when u remove the gearbox but they split just have to undoo the bolts but check the manual i could be wrong
im only going off what i saw when i changed the gearbox in my 1.4 340 to a 5speed out of a 1.7 lol it turns out the diff ratio is exactlythe same as in the 1.4 4 speed as is in the 1.7 5 speed so this should widen yoru search for a diff hope this helps you

Bump!

The ratio in a (1983+?) 4spd 1.4 is the same, but the casing is different - it's longer, to compensate for the missing 5th gear section. I guess you could swap the internals, but that sounds like a lot of hassle!

The diff is identical to the one in an injection 360, though. Carb 360s had a taller (higher ratio) diff. The 3.64:1 diff from the 1.7 and 2.0i are the most common ones, so you should be able to find something without too much trouble.

cheers

James
