Is your outside temp readout correct on your dashboard? if not, the sensor is faulty and wont be giving the correct info to the ECU, leading to poor perfrmance. The sensor is in the LH door mirror housing pointing out the bottom.

Well the thermostat arrives from Volvo and now I'm going to waste many many hours of my life trying to fit it.On speaking to a Volvo tech he says you'll be lucky to do it under 6 hours!!!! Super news!

Re that thump.
Daughter had a geartronic V50. The gearbox was lovely and smooth. Traded it against a used XC70 geartronic. Gearbox thumped going into D from N. Would not readily have identified this as a fault if had not previously had the smooth V50. This was referred to dealer under warranty. They first did an “adaptive road test” which didn’t cure it. They eventually changed the seals and that cured it. I suspect that to change the seals the fluid had to be drained and replaced but they wouldn’t actually admit to that.
Does anyone know whether they would have had to drain and refill the fluid? Last edited by Ian21401; May 11th, 2019 at 20:49. Reason: Correct text |

5 hours or removing trim after trim and various bits of the engine to see the blasted thermostat and its pipework.Still very tricky to access with half the stuff under the bonnet removed. To cut a long story short it turns out that one of the torques bolts wont move and I was running out of time so put everything back together. This car is severely testing my patience.Still cant locate the boost leak even though you can hear it and it's been smoke tested.

Well the cars now had the thermostat changed and I can say that myself and my mechanic NEVER want to do that again. It must have take 10 hours in total and many cut hands, lost sockets and extensions and badly bruised stomachs.
The good news is it's doing a good bit more mpg .It was getting 25-27 tops but now get mid to high 30s which I can live with. Also seems to go a bit better so only the boost leak to find as I got the timing belt done while it was in.
