Remote Brake Servo

Whilst I do not have a Volvo, I do have an old Ford Special which I have recently converted from the rod & cable brakes to a hydraulic system. I think I now need a remote servo and as I have a twin circuit brake master cylinder, other 'experts' on other Forums have suggested that the 140 and Amazon series may have such an item. Are they right and if so has anyone got one? I will post a similar request on the 140 wanted page.

well they are half right,
its the amazon that has them up to 1968 from memory,
there is a seller on ebay that does them at a good price
but i don't know enough about the breaking sistem to tell you which one you need for your aplication

cant you replace the master cylinder with one combined with a servo like most modern cars have ? Otherwise you will need two remote servos which will be expensive and bulky

The first thing is how are your twin circuits arranged? One for front and one back? If so then you can put the servo in the front circuit only as used on the 1969 1800S (at least I think it is 69, it is only a single year at any event). If they are connected as an 'X' ie front left and rear right, front right and rear left, then you can't use a simple remote servo as it is only for a single circuit. In that case you'll need a servo integrated into a twin circuit master cylinder such as used on the later 1800E and 1800ES cars from 1970-3.
The original Girling remote servos used in Volvos are pretty hard to come by as many are replaced over the years with a Lockheed unit. These Lockheed units are readily available new.

I wouldn't have thought you'd have needed a servo on a Ford Special, even a swoopy one like yours. Even with a front disc conversion a suitable sized master cylinder should do the job. Many 1800 and Amazon owners don't bother to recon their servos when they go down and just remove them.
You probably want a smaller bore MC than the Transit one to make best use of a 3:1 ratio. Yes, I'm on the vSAAB list and have a '76 96 as well as an Amazon. Do your pedals pivot at the floor?

Thanks for that. My pedals pivot at the top. Coincidentally I am now looking at installing the master cylinder and servo from a Saab 96 V4 as I am able to 'borrow' one to check for suitability.
