Default Radiator issues

Hi All,

I am after some advice please ref radiators. My current setup is a completely rebuilt b1800 and have added twin su’s and four branch exhaust manifold and radiator with the small cap and overflow bottle ( original) however I have always felt that the cooling would benefit from a new radiator . To that end I bought an old radiator and had it recored but have now realised that it has the bigger cap and no bracket for overflow bottle. My question would be - can I fit the recored radiator and do away with the overflow, and just run with a 13 psi big cap? Or must I fit an overflow bottle . Thanks in advance for any help.

and it's not an overflow, it' an expansion bottle, part of the pressure system.Find an alternative place for bottle.

I know that you have just obtained a re cored rad' but in my opinion you would be better off sticking to original rad' and perhaps fitting an electric fan with a manual switch for the occasions such as slow traffic and delays when the temperature creeps up. I have a B20b with the same set up as you but even here in hot climate under normal driving I have no problem with over heating. You might better before spending any more cash giving the whole system a good flush and checking your water pump.

Yes, checking water pump for a cast impeller vs a stamped sheet metal impeller. The cast will provide much more flow at idle, as in, stuck in traffic. If the cooling system is in top notch condition, you won’t need an aftermarket fan.
