Default V60 Says Radar blocked

Hi Folks
Just got a 2013 V60 D3 (picked up yesterday) and under 3 months warranty. 85K miles
Clean car , inside and out and no signs of any prior damage . Full service history. Runs sweet in every way except:-

On a trip out today a warning came up RADAR BLOCKED , REFER TO MANUAL.
It resets if you restart the car but if you switch off the cruise control for a few miles it will also go away. Of course I will take it back for the dealer to get them to sort it sort but just wondered if others had the problem and what if anything was the solution.

I can imagine the radar sensor being succeptible in its position to salts and all sorts of othe crud thrown up. Maybe connections corroded ??? Just feel I would like some idea of the solution and the potential cost before i take it back.

I’ve had this message many times whilst driving in snow, but otherwise has never presented itself.

To help determine if there is indeed a problem with the sensor, then it will need to see a Volvo dealer to run diagnostics with Vida.

I used to have a V60 D5 ( 215 Hp) and this happened in foul weather when slush and snow built up on the grill.
On this car it is happening in dry weather with nothing visibly blocking it so I suspect as you say that only Volvo diagnostics will give a solution.

I am trying to get an idea of what that solution might be. Is it likely to be a corroded connector , or a failed sensor. And will the agent be honest is deciding what is required ?

I had the same on my 2012 V60 and also my current 2016 XC60, usually in good weather about 2 or 3 times a year. Switiching the engine off and on always cured it. One time a lef had stuck to the sensor..

Always assumed it wasn't faulty and never followed it up.

My XC60 did it on Tuesday on the way back from Leeds

Mind you at the same time the Vision was pretty appalling due to very heavy rain so 30mph on the M1 was pushing it.

Issue cleared as soon as I moved through the monsoon to normal British rainfall conditions.

I have had this a few times usually in foul weather.

I think it was caused by condensation in the cluster behind they mirror and it clears when the weather improves.

The radar is in the front grill, so condensation on the windscreen cannot affect the rader

there are electric heaters behind there to prevent such matters ...

Try cleaning the section of the grille in front of the radar, then spraying it with silicone to act as a water-repellent. I was getting frequent radar errors on my XC70, none since doing this. Similar errors on BLIS were solved by using Rain-X on the lenses.

The radar on my boat, ( the sender/ receiver is in in a radome) works perfectly well in fog, snow, torrential rain, covered is seagull poo etc. Why should a Volvo radar sender/ receiver behind a clean PC/ABS plastic shield stop working due to slight road grime ? ( I know they do, as it's happened on my car !) A very low power unit I expect.
