Default Unexpected City Safe activation

For the first time since I’ve owned my 2015 V60 Lux Nave Cross Country I was never aware that it had City Safe. Today while Boss Thong was approaching a hedge to park the car it activated. It flashed up a yellow box with City Safe (or something to that effect) on the dashboard, I’ve checked the settings and it’s there and selected. The car was serviced recently and there was some software upgrades done so would it be possible that it’s been “woken up” or have we just not created the scenario that forces the car to active City Safe?

Please excuse my utter lack of knowledge in this area?

I have a large Holly Bush/Tree in my driveway which activated the city safe a few weeks ago.

Had a bit of fun testing it after that.

I can confirm that it does indeed work.

Only thing I'm not sure about is whether it works if you are already braking.

Yeah, I’m wondering this too.

I previously used to swing off the village through road and hurtle towards our driveway gate at some speed, stopping mere inches from it... Since owning the V60 I've learnt to moderate my approach after several embarrassing emergency stops. It certainly works very well!

Never noticed a yellow box, or any other form of message though. But I was probably distracted by the shock.

I’ve only got this info second hand, I’ve yet to see it myself.

I believe there is a yellow triangle that flashes up.

My ‘17 XC60 has done this a few times in the 2 years I’ve had it. It always happens in the same circumstances. It’s when I come into my own drive & the sun is at a certain angle over the fence/hedge immediately in front where I park. I’m already braking when it happens & yes, it flashes up yellow in the instrument cluster & the car jams on the brakes full ......
It did startle me the first time it happened- but now I recognise a possible activation.

That could be it, I’m combing the online manual and when City Safe kicks in a message comes up saying Auto Braking by City Safe on the dash. I’ll let my insurance company know, I told em no when they asked me if it had City safe on it.

Just how Boss Thong described it, cheers.

Mine activated in a parking garage, in response to a stationary concrete support pole. I noticed that the brakes made a terrible sound too.
