Question Faraday Box not working with Volvo key

I have a faraday box that works fine with my missus' Mini key but doesn't block my V90 key.

Does anybody have any idea why , or what I can do ?

Cheers

My gut reaction is that the Volvo key pumps out a stronger signal than the Mini key and so isn't blocked in the same way.

What can you do...? Either buy a more effective faraday pouch or consider getting something like one of these instead.

Surely if you disable the battery for any length of time you will lose all the programming of the remote and it just wont work? I am sure when you change the battery you only have 10 mins to do so or lose the codes?

How are you testing it? My key works through pouch if I put pouch on car but theives do it from 3 feet away if the key won’t unlock car from 2/3 feet doubt Paul the relay antennas can pick up the signal to use it..... it’s all about SnR

If your key is in a faraday pouch, and the car will open if you put the pouch on the car, then you need a better faraday pouch.

Faraday pouches lose effectiveness over time. Mine worked perfect for months but over the past month I’ve got to the car in the morning, forgotten key still in pouch and driven to work.

I noticed reading about the XC40 recharge that Volvo are going to put movement tech into that key so hopefully their other cars will follow. If the key isn’t moving about it won’t work to unlock or start so sat motionless in a pocket overnight will not allow thieves to “steal” its signal. It won’t be emitting.

And what “better” pouch do you suggest?

How can you test a faraday pouch?

You need to be close to the car for comfort access to operate and in my experience the closer you are to a car with the key in the pouch the less effective it is?

If you keep your pouch/key away from the car it should work more effectively but not sure how to prove that.

I might double up with a pouch and tin, go down the Russian Doll approach!

I read on another thread that holding the Faraday Pouch with key inside will emit a signal to the car - as the hand and body act as an antenna. To test it properly you have to have the key in the pouch on a passive support to see if the car can be unlocked.
