Hi Mark,

Cheers that link is great, should sort out my dodgy sponge/fabric.

Not urgent so speaker upgrade on backburner, hope you get your new sounds sorted.

Cheers
Steve

I thought that the Bremen was a red display only, so I discounted it lol. Oh well, I'd paid my money so I'll have to wait and see what the Kienzle unit is like.

A 560SEL eh? Utterly rubbish cars, highly overrated. I'll spare you the embarrassment and will take it off you for £500 and a packet of crisps

Seriously though, thats one very impressive car. They're not known for their handling, but I remember being utterly blown away by one when I had my brand new 1990 940 2.0 SE Turbo - it literally left me in its dust. I caught the 560SEL badge as it swept past me and I tried to catch it (I was in my mid 20s then lol) but I literally never saw it again - it disappeared around a bend, then it was a pair of tail lamps in the distance, and then it had gone. It sounded amazing though - can't beat a big V8 when its being booted

Here it is...

It's an impressive beast, absolutely lovely to drive. It's extremely refined - 70mph feels like 40 does in most cars. And the brown velour is... an acquired taste (but I deliberately sought out one with velour in an awful colour!).

The worst thing is paying for the fuel... getting on for £200 to fill the tank on super unleaded, and it does 10MPG round town, 20 on a run. My 740 diesel averages 45mpg on a run, so does a lot more miles!

The Merc does sound nice

So you're the reason for any UK fuel shortages😀 10mpg, Ouch....

Lovely motor though, velour might not be to everyone's taste, it'd be a dull world if all we had was grey leather....

👍👍

Cheers

Thats gorgeous Steve.

I remember that the seats are fabulously comfortable - properly sprung rather than built with foam. I had a friend with one back in the '90s and she took me out in it once. Her daily driver was a Porsche 928

Those old W126s were possibly the last of the proper Mercs, before they became devalued and MB chased the mass company car market. Needs must I know, but what a shame. They're just not built to the same standards these days.
