V70 throttle body
2001 V70 2.4 - Throttle body issue that means will not accept full throttle without having to be restarted. Common V70 issue and well documented.
Saw an ad for the above model V70. I'm not a V70 owner. Is this fault indeed well documented? Owner says he lives with the problem with no worries. Car has done just over 100k. Can anyone offer any comments on this please? |

Never experiences it, but have certainly read of a lot of throttle body (assuming this is electronic throttle module) problems.
From what I remember there potentiometer tracks wear out/short out with carbon build up which gives response issues. There is a contactless repair available I believe. Searching via google brings up a youtube video explaining the repair. |

I certainly would not let that stop me from buying the car but I would milk it for a discount as it's a $300 part and an 60 minutes of labour/calibration to put it in.

There's XeMODeX and a few other companies which'll do the conversion on your own ETM. This is good because any "marrying" to the car's electric (CANBUS) system is already in place.
It's been reported here that dealerships won't program a junkyard ETM for you. They want to sell you a new example of the old design. Another option I read about here was a kit which you installed into your own ETM with a bit of grinding and other mild machining. The parts were always anonymously sourced on ebay. The ad was always down when I looked. No thanks. |

I may be going the contactless fix for mine soon, if I do I will take pictures etc. Keeping the original device is definitely a plus.
I am going to risk an ebay one, as I think most of them are the same and there is not a lot too them.

I checked my throttle with VIDA/DICE and the readings coming back from both potentiometers looked good, so I am going for a full clean first, and take it from there.
So the latest theory is either the motor is faulty or the flap is sticking, we shall see....

What's funny about this topic over the years is the mentioning of "hunting" (rhythmic up-and-down variations of idle speed) has disappeared.

2001 s80 etm
has anyone done the conversion to contactless.
i have a 2001 s80 2.4 auto and the etm is gone. it just revs a bit and sticks or revs wildly, but when put it in gear it usually just dies. i have read about the conversion. does anyone know if i will have to go to a dealer to have it reprogrammed or if because most of ot is still origional it will just "plug and play" |

My car is a P1 2.4 n/a engine and I don't know if they run the same throttle body as the P2 cars-mine has the Magnetti Marelli type with 2 TPS.Most of the time it would run ok except when you got to 3,000 revs it was like hitting a brick wall,at other times the revs would hunt up and down while on tick over and changing gear was like using a switch with power on power off giving a kangaroo effect. If it's the same 2 TPS system then you only change one of them[bought mine off e-bay and it came with an instruction sheet]If you're using the original throttle body and just changing the one TPS there's no re-programming needed. It's called the Sacer method. There is someone on here who has excellent reports of his work that can do these repairs if you send the throttle body off to him if you don't feel confident in doing the repair yourself.HTH
