It would be great to read a report after the trip, by Tails.

Planning to take this trip in May, which will be in my Volvo P1800.
I am aware that in the height of summer this route can be busy, and there might be considerable numbers of camper vans at times.
My P1800 is a great car to tour in. It is very manageable on tight roads, with steering and brakes well suited to the type of roads expected.
Had a trip to Sweden, Denmark and Norway a few years ago, 4,000 km without incident.
Also drove up to Skye and toured for several days on the isle. In my experience if you book ahead, and then plan to pass the overcrowded spots, most tours can still be enjoyed in the British Isles.
Perhaps I am an optimist.....

Did it anti-clockwise when it was first advertised two years ago, it's getting very busy now as it's a "bucket list" trip. Took it slowly in a big motorhome, stopping regularly to visit beaches and sights. A lot of single track roads with passing places, where you don't want to meet 20 vw's in convoy! We visited Skye which was very busy even then. Applecross is very narrow with hairpin bends.
The north east coast is not much, so we made a figure of eight once we'd done it to take in Aberdeen, St Andrews etc. which is much more interesting.
There is a special map with places to visit, but honestly, it's a marketing ploy, so tick it off if you must, but just use a guide like Lonely Planet to pick places to visit and make your own route.

Take your time and enjoy Scotland. We took a fortnigjt and that was too short.

When I do it again, I will go up west coast...and return that way. It humbles the east coast in my opinion!

Absolutely George.

Whenever I head up the West Coast of Scotland I realise that I should have been born there.

I simply love it.

Once had a sailboat holiday in the Western Isles. Brilliant images seared into my consciousness.
