Default XC 70 screen constantly fogging up !

hi all- newbie so bear with me as its my first post(probably in the wrong forum !)
I have a XC70 ,2010 with £32k on the clock which my wife drives and she loves it however it seems to have a habit of steaming up and constant use of the air con to clear the screen .
Any idea as to "normal" settings for everyday use to sort this issue
All help appreciated, thanks,Ian

Hi. Ian,

Welcome to the forum, I've asked the Mod's to move your post to the right section as you are currently in >2007. I run a 2005 XC70 and it's a great car (tank).

Misting like that almost always means damp getting in somewhere. I have had it happen twice. First time (on our 940) it was a leaking heater matrix and the second time (Alfa) it was a blocked air con drain. Both times led to a tell tale wet carpet. Thus, its worth checking carpets under mats and in boot to see if you have any water getting in anywhere.

I was made aware that pollen filters can get very damp over the years, when I asked the same about my Volvo.

I put a condensation trap (pound shop one) in the car to absorb moisture when it wasn't in use, that also seemed to help, leading me to believe the car was damp inside.

Don't know if you have a sunroof but if you have then check the sunroof drains to see if they are clean.
I believe these can become blocked and the result is that water can end up in the foot well?

As a first step, just change the cabin filter. Sometimes they can get so clogged that they restrict airflow through the heater/ventilation system and this results in misting up.

Also make sure you haven't got the cabin air recirculation turned on (or stuck on). You need fresh air coming in from outside to keep the screen clear if the aircon is off.

Also a heater matrix leak can give you a lot of sweet smelling fog...

NB

It might be worth checking the heater connection on the lower left hand side of the heater matrix; the O ring has a habit of leaking small drops at a time which eventually saturates the passenger side carpet. Check for a silky/slippery feeling on that carpet.

This leads to the condensation on the colder screens as the temperature drops.
