Obviously try the above suggestions to attempt to locate any possible cause of damp, but there is nothing wrong in running with the aircon on all the time and just select the desired temperature setting according to weather and/or personal preference.Aircon should be run on a regular basis anyway as this stops the systems seals from drying out and then causing leaks. On the XJ6 I had[only car I've ever owned with working aircon]I never turned the aircon off I just altered the temp setting to suit and I owned that car for 9yrs.

I agree with Dippydogg.
Keep your aircon on. It's a very good dehumidifier. |

Much appreciated guys - this sounds an ideal solution but is it not expensive to have it on all the time or just periodically to ensure it doesnt clog up ?

Driving costs money; it’s meant to run all the time and anything but that will generally cause issues.

I have a 2011 V70 which I've had for eight years. Have had a/c on constantly from new. Never had a problem, not even needed a re-gas. Makes very little difference to economy and I have all my windows dry, all round the car, all year.
It also dries the kids hair well after we've been swimming! Another tip: In the winter, a couple of minutes before you get home and park, open the windows and let out all the warm moisture-laden air in the car. |

That's the trick I got from a cab driver.
When the car has heated up from a longer ride and it's negative C outside, then I open all the doors and boot lid for 30 seconds and the windows don't fog and freeze like it otherwise would. If it's - degrees then I don't really want to drive with windows down

Never understood why anybody would turn off Climate Control.
It's a very expensive computer that monitors temperature (Inside Cabin/Sunlight/External), monitors humidity, monitors outside air quality, sets the flaps to dash windscreen and floor or stops outside air getting in, sets the fan. If you turn it off you have to manually do all this plus alter the flaps and temperature. Then send it to a specialist to clean the smell from the trunking because you never remembered to blast some air down it. |

When you turn the ignition off, you might notice a noise from the HVAC flaps; that’s the system directing the air down to the footwell area regardless of setting so that when the car is next started, any potentially damp air is directed away from the screen...

wow, really interesting-so we are talking climate control being on all the time rather than just pressing the aircon button periodically ?
