Default Mirrors 1986 onward

Hi all

I have recently aquired some electric mirrors to sprouse up my 245 Gl 1987.

One of the mirriors looks brand new yet the bracket part it sits on is well manky and has been painted with some kind of hammerite making it look
C%*p. What I wanna know is. can the Mirror an surounding box I.E the bit the mirror it self is contained in be seperated from its bracket I.E the bit that you actually bolt to the car an stays flush even when you put the mirror part in so as it does not get knocked for instance.

hopefully I have not confused my question. I think you must be able to but I can't quite se how.

Any Ideas ???????????????????????????????????????????? Thanks Steve

Not sure if I read this right, but are you asking if you can remove the glass from the housing?

If so I found this on alt.autos.volvo group:-

On the underside of the mirror there's a hole, where You can use a
screwdriver on the white plastic ring in the inside of the mirror. When
You "turn" that ring, the mirror loosen, and You can put in a new one.

Hope it helps,
Debbie

Thanks for your reply. I actually wanted to know if I can separate the mirrior housing from the aliminum bracket that holds it on to the car.

Perhaps this is not something that anyone has done and that is why you got no initial response.

well I've done it now. After some probing I found that the only way to seperate these items is by braking them so no fun there at all
