Needs steering wheel controls added and a software upgrade but it isn't cheap. Been a long time since I saw anyone on the forum do it and I'm sure I recall the software alone from Volvo being over £300. The wheel controls can be added using second hand ones off eBay from a donor wheel.

It didn't seem as bad when the cars cost £12-25k to buy. Now, due to their age, it seems unreasonably pricey.

I already have cruise control on my 2016 V40, I contacted Volvo Wolverhampton and asked about getting it upgraded to adaptive cruise control and they said it can't be done.
This was about a week ago, they said if you can't see it on the Volvo accessories page then it can't be done. I'm going to try contacting another Volvo dealer and see what they say. Just contacted Volvo in Stoke and they said the same. Last edited by mark1400; Sep 11th, 2020 at 12:07. |

The OP asked about standard cruise on an older S40/V50 which is perfectly possible.

Cars are basically computers on wheels these days.
This is no different from buying a brand new Printer, plugging it into your laptop and expecting it to just work, when it actually needs the right software installing first. It's a shame as these era of vehicles are now becoming dirt cheap, and in some cases the software costs from Volvo are more than the value of the whole car. |
