Ive always thought that cars with DPF’s could have a ‘convenient to regen’ button so that if the car was nearing needing one, then it can start now, as you know youre on the motorway and moving for a while.

From a previous life, we found that most cars, despite measuring soot loading (at start up, they dont measure constantly) miles, engine loading etc., that most cars just regenned once per tank of fuel, and used that metric rather than the others.

If you know what to listen for,, you can hear a regen in the exhaust note, and a quick look at stop/start status as ‘unavailable’ (for engine management reasons or something like that in the menu) confirms it, so keep moving, and if you have a manual, keep revs at about 1500rpm if you come to a halt to keep it going.

Keeping the exhaust warm and a reasonable engine load is key.
