Infotainment remote control
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I have just purchased my first Volvo - 2011 MY S60. It has the 7" screen with Nav and a dvd player.
It also came with a remote control. This does nothing, even after replacing the batteries. With the new batteries the remote lights up but I can't make it control anything. I've pressed the button on it to set it to control the "F" (front) screen of course but makes no odds. The manual says the receiver is "next to the info button" but that appears to me to be just a plastic blanking plate. Online poking about seems to indicate the remote comes with cars that have the rear screens as well, which mine doesn't. Should the remote work - does it come with all S60 models like mine - or did the dealer accidentally put the remote in my car and it should have gone in another better specced one? |

Did you buy your S60 from a Volvo dealer? If so, assuming it was a Selekt car, I imagine the warranty might cover that... worth having a chat with them! |

Yes, it was a Volvo dealer, and yes, it has Selekt. The car is going in for a couple of bits and bobs next week, but I didn't want to ask a foolish question of them.

I have found that they only work if pointed directly at the receiver. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you are hitting every issue I had with my 2011 S60.
The remote was at best poor with the original version of Sensus. New batteries would work for about 2 minutes then there'd be no response from the car. The remote lights up but does not appear to do anything in the car. With the Sensus upgrade the remote works flawlessly with DVD & Navigation. I have not tested the other functions. My car does not have RSE only the 7" screen in the dash with Navigation.

Infotainment remote control programming
I have a 2013 V40 D3 Nav with 'Infotainment'. The handbook mentions the remote control but it was missing so I bought one from Ebay! At first it did not appear to work but after several attempts I could select the Radio or Nav. Then the Radio went into scanning mode and I couldn't stop it! Also after selecting Nav I was unable to choose anything from the menu. Eventually after much fiddling around I switching off and back on and all appeared normal. I am loathed to try the remote again but wonder if it needs programming to suit my car. Any ideas welcome!

I found the remote very temperamental. My wife would use it to to change radio stations - sometimes it would work other times it wouldn't , couldn't figure out why. Have given up on it, not worth the trouble.

Yes, given up too - had the Sensus update so on the latest, but it's hopelessly patchy in operation.
The only feeble reason for me wanting it to work was that a previous s****y car had the radio controls, amongst others, replicated in the armrest in the back, so sometimes Mrs B would be driven around like Lady Muck working the radio from there and waving to the crowds, for her amusement. I half hoped the Volvo remote might give her a similar ability. But as it doesn't reliably work she jolly well has to stay in the front seat like a normal person and lump it. |

I Have a 2011 MY V60 with the same 7" screen/Nav/dvd player. My remote works fine, so if you fancy a trip up to Lincoln to test each others remotes
