Impact strength
Parked up yesterday and just fastening granddaughter into car seat when an almighty bang at back of car and big Iveco van reversed into me. It went with a lot of force as threw wife and granddaughter forward. Luckily they had just got seat belts on and were ok. I dreaded looking at rear of car but couldn't believe what I saw. No visible damage, had a look underneath today and can`t see any damage so I recon got off lightly and that rear bumpers are much stronger than they appear..Reminds me of the old Volvos with sprung bumpers.

Yes, got his details and photos. Presume you are referring to rear sensors "in ok had enough 2". Tried reversing at different angles and distances to objects and seem to be working fine

Get it checked. Cars are designed to squirrel away impact energy. The untrained eye may be deceived.
The Universe smiled on you for sure. |

Jag X Type slow impact with my Mk1 rear end (no towbar) whilst I was stopped at lights.
Couldn't see any damage but lots to the Jag. Had mine checked at the dealer - no damage confirmed. Jag had bent bonnet, damaged oil pump, radiator and grille. Over £4K to repair the insurance company told me. BTW - because of the damage to the Jag, I knew the driver would have to inform her insurance company, and since we had swapped details I informed my company as a courtesy after having my car checked and informing them there was no damage to my car. Later learned this was recorded as a "Claim" by my company, which had to be declared whenever I renewed my insurance. This was picked up by the next insurer I used. DON'T make the same mistake as I did and inform your insurance company as a "courtesy" - only do so if you have to. |

Not that I am aware of.
When I queried why it had been recorded as a "claim" they just said it was routine practice, and the info is shared with other insurers. They said it doesn't matter if it was a no-fault claim, I still had to declare it when applying for insurance. That was more than 5 years ago so it isn't asked for now. So I won't be doing that again. |
