Default Xc70 park assist not working

The Park Assist System on my XC70 isnt working, and It wont switch on. I suspect one of the sensors could be faulty, but should this cause the whole system to fail, although the reverse camera in the sat nav screen still functions when the cars in reverse gear. Has anyone any thoughts on the problem?

Yes, if one of the sensor no longer works the whole system stops.

So, Apart from changing each sensor in turn, is there any way to determine which one is faulty, as they are all clean and seem undamaged.

Guessing vida or possibly vdash would be able to indicate which the faulty one is. You need a dice unit for both.

I suspect its the Right hand Rear sensor after seeing very slight damage on it, and note there are vast differences in the cost of genuine Volvo and other makes, which leaves me to wonder if after market parts will work ok together with genuine Volvo sensors.

I replaced number 4 sensor on my S40 with a non genuine £ 10 unit and had no problems.

Well I have replaced all eight sensors in turn with no result, I still get Parking System Service required when starting up. of something is fitted to my car I prefer it to work, so has anyone any idea what other thing it could be, I have just about given up spending on this as I rarely use the system and was taught to use my eyes and mirrors when parking.

VIDA/DiCE would probably tell you which part of the system has failed.

I dont have access to that equipment and dont know any one who has.
I have ben a Volvo Enthusiast for many years but am a rare animal in our part of the Country with my nearest Volvo Stealer over 35 miles away.
There is a Volvo Inde about 15 miles away who should have the right gear, so I may pay him a visit in the hope that he wont rob me for advice.

Owning a VIDA/DiCE is worthwhile whether you carry out your own spannetring or use a garage. Knowing what the engine says is the fault is of great use in both cases. If you have a laptop you can run the diagnostics by purchasing the DiCE lead and VIDA software disc on-line for not much more than £50 which isn't expensive for the powerful bespoke Volvo diagnostics program. A forum member here, cheshired5 sells this kit already loaded and running on a suitable laptop for not that much more. I'd recommend you considered owning your own VIDA/DiCE if you are a Volvo enthusiast.
