22 pro wheels - real world vulnerability?
All set to order another RD T8, but toying with a Pro, just for a bit of a change really. Currently diamond 20 wheels are unmarked after 25k miles, though I can tell from scuff marks on the tyres a few times, Mrs D76 has had a few near misses.
Every Pro model I see around seems to have kerb scarred alloys, and the low pro tyres dont look like they offer much protection. So, like the title really - high risk?? Thanks D76

All I can say is I was very careful with my 22 wheels.
Paranoid even. In just under three years and 17k miles, there wasnt a single mark on them. And then I hit a pothole on the A1 at 70mph and wrecked one (and the tyre). That was in March and Im still waiting to hear if the Highways Agency are picking up the £1200 bill... So in answer to your question - yes, I would say they are high risk. (Worth it though; unbuckled, they look great...)

I only have 21 wheels on my RDPro and they are a nightmare too, no matter HOW hard I try not to damage them.
And If they are diamond cut, every time that you get one repaired it costs circa £110 per corner PLUS VAT. I would definitely therefore agree with previous posts that Yes, 22 wheels would be a high risk ( I am currently toying with the idea of dumping the 21 ones for 20 or even possibly 19 ones 🥺 Rob

Hi,
Do be aware that the tyre choice is much more limited at 22" than 20", and naturally more pricey too. ie they don't do CrossClimates in 22" (at the moment) - just something to bear in mind! Good luck |

They do look good, but let's face it, these are comfy riding SUVs, not sports cars, not sure why Volvo feel they should put 22s on the Pro model without even the option to get 20s instead.
As others have said, as well as scuffing, you need to think about road noise, ride quality and restricted tyre options too. Plus, the cost of replacement tyres. :wq

Youve all pretty much confirmed my thoughts / fears. Why they dont allow you to NCO down a wheel size I have no idea.
We can bemoan the rubbish optioning that Volvo provides, restricting lots of things to the pro pack, but that wont change anything. Think Ill be gaining an extra 0.8kW of battery capacity, an extra 20 litres of fuel tank capacity and a leatherette dash...and lose 17hp, crystal gear shifter, paddle shift, not to mention parking ticket holder! Plus Ill pay more tax and have to pick a colour I dont really want!! Oh well, at least it wont be due a service for a year!!

Hi Director76,
Seems like perhaps progress isn't all progress! If you do change your mind and think of selling your present, do let me know, maybe tempted to change mine i- just don't want to lose £5k dealer profit Many thanks, Laurence |

I have 19" wheels on mine... what a sweet ride. Even if it's a big pothole... it won't bother me. Never gets to your back... you just hear the sound. I drive a XC60 but even if i had a XC90 i would say exactly same thing. 20"s or 19"s. I have air suspension and i ride on 19"s. I've heard that even on air suspension, 21"s are already a pain in the ass. So if one day i change my rims, I'll change to 20"s. More than that, forget it. Let's face things as they are. As someone said above... these are comfy riding SUVs, not sports cars. This is my honest opinion. Good luck. 👍
