I had this problem with my tailgate - changed the lock inside the tailgate and problem solved - it has a plunger type system on it which I suspect wears after time and that sets up a warning which sends random tailgate open warnings and alarm activation.

My issue re bonnet is the actual catch itself, it will not lock at all, tried copious amounts of WD to no avail i have another one enroute, rest assured, mine will work fine the day the new one turns up........

My problem was the brown wire which is connected to heated rear window. I replaced lock at first as I though that micro switch was bad but it turns out it wasn't.

Poss or latvia, one or the other, i know my bonnet hinges came from Latvia lol

Electrical cleaner would be no good on mechanical, i dont think, its the actual lock thats seized by the looks of things...

You're correct, there are 2 latches and one with electrics for the alarm (ns for UK), its that one thats not working, its stuck in the open position, not the switch side of things, the actual mechanical part that locks the bonnet down..
