2001 V40 value?
Breaking my heart but I need to sell my old girl. (Car, not the wife).
It's a 2001 V40 with 183000 miles. MOT out next month, turbo whistle, wings rusty and very little clutch life left. Full leather, aircon, alarm, cruise all working. What value would you reckon? Anyone interested? Based near Burton on Trent, Derbyshire. |

A good one will fetch £700 ish if sold privately, but as yours has issues I'd say £400 realistically if that.

If on the other hand, I was in 'HalV40's shoes and selling this car, I would MOT it before offering it for sale. With 12 months MOT (c£50), it should make at least £500 all day long. The remaining issues could then be addressed by the new owner, if so desired, as and when time and funds allow. Regards, John.

I echo the above. Fully kitted out ones fetch more than the base models obviously and the diesels are a good engine provided they've been looked after.
If I was looking for one, the MOT would be the only sticking point for me, if there was a year's ticket on it I would buy. Obviously the clutch issue would knock the price down more.

Thanks for the suggestions, makes sense to try and get another MOT done. I'm guessing £200-250 with a few weeks mot left.
The car is brilliant and never lets me down but I'm killing her with the short commute I'm doing now, and I don't need an estate. I'll check her over at the weekend and book her in for a test. |

Without being negative, depending upon what the MOT flags up, you might want to log onto some of the 'we buy your car for scrap/cash' and check what you'll get, sort of underwriting the situation.
My last V40 1.6 manual was sold for £185 scrap last year, if that helps re pricing. I think these were the people I sold it to, but your location might throw up a better deal from someone else, www.scrap-mycar.com/scrap-car-form/

I know that the yard it'll go to pay 120 a tonne for cars, so they're effectively picking it up for free, but that's for a car complete, as the guy who takes my scrap for me uses the same place only takes them in himself, if a car has had a lot of parts taken off it though like the Volvo did it's then classed as a shell, which fetches half the price, my mate took it in, 1120kg over the bridge and only got £62, but the way I see it is that a leather interior would have cost me more than the amount they knocked off so it's still a win.
