Regen V40 D4

Orange engine symbol came on looked it up in the manual it says emission fault went to my local Volvo Indy he said it needs a regen to clear the carbon soot ect Tells me i can do this myself all i have to do is make sure it has over half tank of fuel and drive for 30 minutes above 3000 revs even if I have to change gear to achieve this I drive the V40 D4 so I drove in 4th above 3000 it did do the trick I questioned why must I have over half a tank of fuel to do this he shrugged his shoulders and said mordern engine’s it did work does anyone know different

On a foot note the Indy guy has been Volvo for 40yrs
