Towing weights
Is there anywhere that I can look up a table showing the maximum allowable weight that I can tow with my 960 estate ('P-reg')?
I am looking to tow a 360 car on a twin axle braked transporter trailer (Ifor Williams / Brian James type).

Towing Weights
Hi
The caravan club always say max 80% of the vehicles gross weight I think the legal max is that your trailer and load must not weigh more than the car that is towing it However I used to tow a MK 1 Astra behind a 740 turbo with out any problems regards alan |

The 80% rule is a reccomendation for first time towers............
Going over the weight of your car, depends on the cars restrictions - cars max tow weight according to manufacturer & cars max on the towball according to the manufacturer. I don't know about a 960.......... if it helps it should be in the vehicle handbook - if you have it. Both of my Ovlovs 240 Est 2.0ltr & 850 Est 2.5 have a max tow weight of 1600kg (braked). 75kg on the ball on both too. IIRC the books suggest 45mph max for 240 & 50 mph for 850 too. Guess your 960 will be a tad heavier than either of mine, so you may have a little bit more tow weight allowance - on the ball I'd guess it'll be the same (My old Montego Est had a manufacturers max towball weight of 35kgs! so it does vary...75kgs is the 'norm' on standard cars, 4x4 will be 100kgs or more). Someone here should be able to confirm for their handbook for you........ Good Luck
