Default Can’t move wingmirror

Recently my partner noticed that the passenger wingmirror glass won’t move if you tried to look at the kerb if she was parking ect. Drivers side is fine and also when I hop in and press 3 for my memory seat the mirror adjusted no problem to the settings I’ve had previously. All wires are secure and puzzled as it worked a few weeks back.... anyone else experience this or know if a potential fix?

Thanks

If the mirror moves when using the memory function but not when adjusting it using the switch in the door, suspect the door switch.

If I get time today I’m going to pull apart and clean connections to see if that works if not will try a new switch

The XC90 has no standard function to move the passenger mirror when selecting reverse.

It can only be added by adding something like the Canbus Function Extender (CFE), and this then uses the seat/mirror memory positions 1, 2 and 3 to provide for the function

Check if the mirror X and Y motors operate properly when controlling via the driver's door mirror controls

Check if the mirror memory works for positions 1, 2 and 3 when using the seat memory functions on the driver's seat

If the motor controls X and Y, but the memory does not work, then the X/Y position sensor in the mirror is likely failling. This can be easily replaced

NOTE:
VIDA will tell you all of the above and allow you to test each function independently.

It’s when we are trying to operate the mirror manually from the control on the door it won’t move. The light lights up if you press to move the n/s mirror, the right hand side is fine and moves with the controls and everything works fine when using the memory seat settings.

Check the mirror folding function

I have one mirror where the folding motor has failed, overloads the control circuits, and causes all the functions to fail.

Unplugging he folding motor brought everything back to normal, except that it won't fold of course.

If folding is OK, then use VIDA to diagnose if you have a button or controller problem

Unplug the folding motor - the plug is inside the mirror:

Steps:
  1. Remove the mirror glass
  2. Remove the painted mirror cover
  3. You will see the connector for the folding motor in the hinge
  4. Unplug it
  5. Then retry all mirror functions

You'll likely find the X/Y functions work now.

If motor has failed (normally due to jammed/broken/stripped gears) Then save up for a new mirror frame + motor assembly (2nd hand or new)
You'll need a few pennies, they are not cheap.

NOTE:
I spent literally hours and hours disassembling the entire mirror on my dining room table trying to get to the folding motor, with absolutely no joy whatsoever. The motor is deep inside the hinge and is installed with a spring-loaded folding mechanism, the sort that is impossible to disassemble and reassemble without special jigs and tools

I need a new right-hand frame and motor, I am still saving...

Thank you for your reply,
i will have to detach the inside door pannel as well in order to remove the mirror assembly from the car.

"You'll likely find the X/Y functions work now."

These functions are working fine, its just the folding part that's not working, the whole case is pretty free, i belive it was hit and poped out of it's place.

Thank you very much for your great advices.

I had the exact same problem - someone hit my mirror while I was parked - they "kindly" straightened it back into place and in doing so probably broke the folding motor.

I had to have a replacement mirror housing fitted at my local independent garage which cost just under £400 (inc labour and VAT)

My mirror has the BLiS system etc so yours may not be quite so expensive...

Cheers

Dave
